Let me start by saying I was already a big fitness enthusiast before I started this journey. But I struggled with consistency and getting the results I actually wanted. So the first thing I had to do was have a mindset change to transition to a healthy-eating, fit lifestyle and stay there. One of the reasons why we keep starting anstopping, losing the weight but gaining it all back and more, is because we did not prepare mentally. Don’t forget, the body follows where the mind leads it.
To be fit, you’ll have to be on 80% nutrition and 20% exercise ratio. Because to lose weight or fat, you need to take in less calories than you burn. And let’s be honest, watching what you eat is so much more effective than just exercising because it will take a ton of activity to create a 700 to 900 calorie deficit by just working out. You can lose weight without exercise, but you cannot lose weight if what you eat is way more than what you burn in a day. So I started meal prepping. Preparing my yummy but healthy meals in advance so I could significantly reduce the temptation to eat ‘dirty’. Don’t forget PORTION CONTROL. This helped me stay on a calorie deficit and that’s another very important step!
For exercise, in addition to joining an accountability group, I also started a ‘quarancise’ routine with my friends where we worked out Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays excluded using the House Party or Zoom app. This made working out a lot easier.
Drink your water guys! This works wonders. I drink 2 – 4 litres of water everyday and I can say that this has significantly helped my weight loss journey. Drinking lots of water everyday can boost your metabolism and help your body stop retaining water. It also acts as an appetite depressant. So don’t sleep on your water, drink up!
