Welcome to the 12th Week – You’re in the last week of your 3rd month of pregnancy. Finally reaching the end of the first trimester and hopefully you feel fewer pregnancy symptoms. Here’s what to expect this week.
YOUR GROWING BABY
At 12 weeks, your baby is about the size of a plum; 2 inches long and weighs .49 ounces. Most of his organs have formed and he’s still growing!
12 WEEKS PREGNANT SYMPTOMS
Spotting
Spotting or bleeding during pregnancy at 12 weeks could be something to worry about or it could be nothing at all. Either way, make sure to tell your doctor. If the bleeding is heavy or comes with cramps, it needs urgent attention.
Headaches
Hormonal shifts, low blood sugar, dehydration, stress or lack of sleep can cause constant headaches that may begin to intensify at this stage of your pregnancy. To deal with this, try to find the culprits and avoid them. If the headaches take a turn and become migraines or worse, let your OB know.
Increased discharge
As weird as it might seem, having clear discharge is normal and even protects your vagina from infection. But if you have yellow, greenish, pink, or brown discharge during pregnancy week 12, call your doctor immediately. Those colors could be a sign of infection or preterm labor.
Faintness and Dizziness
Hormone shifts and dropping blood sugar are the common causes of dizzy spells around this time. Prevent this by snacking regularly and drinking plenty of water. Sit or lie down once you feel dizzy or lightheaded. If it gets severe, let your doctor know.
12 WEEKS PREGNANT BELLY
Your womb is about the size of a grapefruit now so your pregnant belly should be getting noticeable now. You can start to tell people you’re expecting around time. You can also start taking photos of your pregnant belly at 12 weeks to keep the memories of how much your body changed throughout the nine months. Your jeans and clothes are probably starting to feel too snug now so it might be time to invest in maternity clothes.
12 WEEKS PREGNANT ULTRASOUND
Your baby is almost done developing his or her body’s important systems and parts. This means she will only be getting bigger and more mature from here on out and organs and tissues will grow and develop rapidly. This week your unborn baby will also have developed the startle reflex, also known as the Moro reflex. This means she’ll hear sounds and react to them by opening and closing her arms and legs.
