How to overcome guilt and fully enjoy the festive season

guilt

If you’ve spent the year trying to lose weight or keep fit, then it’s normal to have feelings of guilt, particularly at this time of the year. Changing our mindset towards food will go a long way to help us eliminate food guilt. The festive season is a time to spend with family and friends and it’s only for a few days of the year. So instead of putting yourself under so much pressure and guilt associated with holiday get-togethers and dinners, try something new this year; stop focusing so much on what not to do or eat.

Try to practice mindful eating. Eat slowly and savour every flavour. Listen to your body, stop eating once you feel full.

Keep up with your regular routine as much as possible. Stay active in whatever way you can. Dance well when it’s time to dance. Staying active will help control the excess calories you’re very likely to consume during this period.

Eat a balanced breakfast. Before you go anywhere, make sure you’re well fed with a healthy balanced meal that should include proteins, fruits or veggies. You’re more likely to overeat if you let yourself get too hungry.

Another hack is to use smaller plates. Smaller plates will help you take smaller portions of food. And remember, you don’t have to eat everything on the menu or every food offered to you. It’s absolutely okay to say no.

Accept that it’s okay to enjoy food and drink this season without the guilt. Besides, it’s only for a few days.
